After spending 10 years in accountancy, followed by 6 years in residential social work, working with people with different learning abilities, Richard completed a BSc (Hons) in Human Ecology as a mature student at University of Huddersfield in 1997.

Whilst on placement in 1996, Richard worked for Kirklees Education Service as one of the first eco-officers in a ground-breaking Council scheme following the original Rio Earth Summit. Whilst there he assisted in the production of curriculum resources for schools in relation to the promotion of sustainable development, and helped produce a strategy for promoting 'Agenda 21' (an Agenda for the 21st Century) in Kirklees' 200+ schools.

On leaving University, Richard worked for an organisation 'Green Business Network', a small team based in Halifax, which won several national awards for its innovative work supporting local businesses with environmental initiatives. Richard became Project Manager of the £500K 'Winning with Waste' scheme, a 4 year Government project.

Richard took up a new challenge 3 years ago and moved to HBOS as environmental and travel co-ordinator specifically to deliver green travel plans at two major employment sites in West Yorkshire, and has since increased the scope of the green travel related work…
